Welcome to Shelf Things! I started this as a way to document and review the books I read. I obviously log my reading in a journal, but the pages are quite literally falling apart, and I thought this would be a great way to have everything in one place. Reading makes me happy, seeing other people read makes me happy, and so I love the idea of looking back on my thoughts and sharing those thoughts with other people.
My name is Rosaly (everyone calls me Rosy, though). I’m 23 years old and I currently live in Miami. My parents were born in Cuba and I am a proud first-generation Cuban-American. I love my city and I love mi gente! I graduated in 2019 from Florida State University (#GoNoles) with a BS in Criminology and I’ve been working at the juvenile courthouse ever since. I love lounging on a hammock — preferably by the sea — with a good book in hand. I have roughly five to seven hammocks in my trunk at any given time (I have a big family).
My love for reading began with Junie B. Jones in the third grade (I still have the whole collection displayed on my shelf) and it blossomed from there. Growing up, life happened and unfortunately reading took a back seat. It wasn’t until 2017 that I began reading more frequently again and documenting everything.
I currently love reading contemporary fiction, romance, and YA, but I will read anything that sounds good or is recommended to me.
Lately, I have been gravitating toward family dramas… and I simply cannot get enough of them. I love books with strong, memorable characters and beautiful prose. I’m also just a sucker for a good story! My favorite book of all time is Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman.
Besides reading, I enjoy hanging with my sisters (I’m the eldest of three), spending time outdoors, watching movies (read: binging Netflix), scrolling through Pinterest, roaming the aisles of Target, assembling things from Ikea, and traveling, I love to travel! The last three places I visited were Spain, Hawaii, and Thailand. I will most likely include travel posts on here too because wHyNoT?!
Thanks for stopping by and remember, siempre pa’lante, pa’tras ni pa’ coger impulso!
